People often begin individual therapy because something in their life no longer feels sustainable. You may understand intellectually why you respond the way you do and still find yourself repeating the same patterns. You may be functioning well in many areas while privately feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, uncertain, or dissatisfied with relationships or with the direction your life is taking.
Therapy can provide a place to understand not only what you are feeling, but why certain patterns persist and what may need to change.
Symptoms matter, but they rarely tell the whole story. Anxiety, depression, anger, emotional withdrawal, relationship difficulties, or feeling chronically stuck may be connected to longstanding ways of understanding yourself, relating to other people, or managing difficult emotions.
Our approach is active and collaborative. We help clients make connections between current difficulties and the patterns underneath them while also identifying practical ways to respond differently in everyday life.
The goal isn't insight for its own sake. It is developing enough understanding to create meaningful change.
Individual therapy often involves relationships even when no one else is in the room. Clients may be trying to understand a difficult partnership or family relationship, recover after betrayal or loss, establish healthier boundaries, or determine what they want from relationships going forward.
Others come to therapy during periods of transition or uncertainty, changes in relationships, family roles, work, identity, faith, or the expectations they have carried about how their lives were supposed to look.
We also work with neurodivergent adults and with men exploring relationships, emotional intimacy, identity, sexuality, and other concerns that may be difficult to discuss openly.
Yisroel Goodman, LCSW, works with adults navigating relationships, emotional connection, trauma, life transitions, men's issues, neurodivergence, identity, sexuality, and concerns related to pornography or sexual behavior.
Kristin Katz, LCSW, works with adolescents and adults facing complex relational and family dynamics, personality-related patterns, trauma, infidelity and relationship rupture, and difficult decisions about relationships and family.
Both therapists take an engaged, thoughtful approach to treatment and adapt therapy to the individual rather than expecting every client to fit the same model. If you're uncertain which therapist would be the better fit, we're happy to help you decide where to begin.
